Congrats to XQuery finally reaching 1.0 status! XQuery is not perfect for everything, but it’s a really solid language for many XML tasks and a lot more readable than XSLT (for me at least). There are dozens of engines available and probably a dozen of them pass significant test suites towards 1.0 compatibility. This is technology ready to use today.
In addition to XQuery 1.0, a slew of related specs also reach milestones: XPath 2.0, XSLT 2.0, and a bunch of more technical specs behind these technologies.
