Michael is finally joining the modern world and switching to Mac and invited people to submit their favorite / essential Mac apps.
Here’s my list:
- Firefox – duh
- Adium – chat
- iTerm – terminal (Leopard’s version is usable but I like iTerm shortcuts and other features better
- Mail – sufficient but wish it had a calendar other than iCal
- TextMate $$ – text editor (not free, but worth it) – try TextWrangler for an ok free editor
- Quicksilver – app launching and more
- NeoOffice – very decent for word processing and office stuff
- KeyNote $$ – must have for presentations
- iStat – menu bar stats
- Growl – system notification, integrates with many above
- Colloquy – irc
- NetNewsWire – rss
- Audacity – audio editing
- Audio Hijack $$ – swiping audio from any app
- Senuti – move songs off your iPod onto a different computer (senuti == reverse(itunes))
- ByteController – iTunes control from the menu bar, probably something better out there
- coconutBattery – for those obsessed with battery performance
- CoRD – a better Remote Desktop for Windows access
- OmniGraffle $$ – drawing program, totally worth the cash, check out all the Omni apps
- TinyAlarm – a wonderful tiny menu bar alarm clock
- Zoom – a player for interactive fiction files like Zork :)
